Hong Kong Wen Wei Po is one of the major mainstream newspapers for the whole society in Hong Kong, positioned mainly for the readers who are the elites from all walks of life in Hong Kong. Today, the paper publishes an average of 60 pages or 15 big broadsheets daily. It is also available same day in major cities, most provinces and autonomous regions in Mainland China. Lately, it has gained the approvalof Taiwan authorities to set up a corresponding office in Taiwan soon. Thanks to irs nine overseas editions to the countries in Southeast Asia and North America, the paper's circulation reaches more than 400,000 copies per day. Since it was launched in 1948, Hong Kong Wen Wei Po, being faithful to the country and Hong Kong all the time, has undergone historical changes and bounds of memorable moments to grew in strength, and has been standing with millons of Hong Kong citizens through thick and thin. The paper, with its dutiful staff, yellen in support of the birth of New China in the years following its launching and made every effort to give full coverage of new events and figures as well as the development of the motherland after the founding of the People's Republic of China. Especially since 1978, it was known for reporting accurately and authoritatively on the events in mainland China as for as the Hong Kong public was concerned. In the transitional peroid to the handover of Hong Kongto China, the paper went all out give comprehensive coverage of the great concept of 'one country, two systems' and of the transitional progress. In the years that followed the handover, the paper contributed to the stability and prosperity of Hong Kong by truthfully reflecting the public opinions and playing the media's role in supervision, while supporting the law-based administration of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
